TIAA 2025 Early Talent Internship: Nuveen Equities & Fixed Income (NEFI) in Charlotte, North Carolina

Intern

The Intern gains experience and an overall feel for the company and the financial services industry by attending meetings, delivering presentations, exploring business-specific tasks, and working closely with cross-functional groups to better understand the organization. Over the 10-week summer internship program, this job participates in a robust training and onboarding program followed by an ongoing speaker series, lunch-and-learns, and cohort engagement activities. This job may have the opportunity to work in the follow business areas: Technology, Asset Management, Financial Analysis/Accounting, Audit, Risk and Compliance, Human Resources and Advice and Client Relationships.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Performs clerical duties such as taking memos, organizing documents, maintaining files, photocopying, faxing, etc. as needed

  • Assists in preparing information and research materials, including Powerpoint presentations.

  • Takes notes during meetings and provides to team members.

  • Researches and gathers documentation as directed by colleagues.

  • Attends company functions, including trainings programs, speaker series, lunch-and-learns and social networking events that provide opportunities for career growth and personal development.

  • Shadows multiple office jobs and trains in a variety of tasks.

  • Gains experience and an overall feel for the company and the financial services industry

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA required

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

You will have the opportunity to work in one of the below exciting business areas including but not limited to:

Client Portfolio Management Intern

Client Portfolio Management (CPM) is an expert portion of our investment teams working in partnership with and across distribution channels in support of new business development, relationship growth, and client retention. The team is organized by asset class, providing specialized expertise within municipals, taxable fixed income, equities, and public real assets. Client Portfolio Management professionals demonstrate Nuveen’s investment expertise through specialized representations of our research and investment capabilities, competitive product positioning, and timely market perspectives.  Client Portfolio Managers act as market-facing proxies for the portfolio management team, communicating investment strategy, process, and results to clients and prospects, thereby enabling PMs to focus the majority of their time on portfolio management.

  • Support CPM team in preparation of portfolio reviews and sample portfolios

  • Participate in new business and client service meetings and calls

Global Strategy Intern

The Global Strategy Intern will play a supporting role in advancing the growth of our equities and fixed income business. This will include ongoing research, analysis and support for new and existing strategies and client relationships. In addition, the Intern will assist in early stage research into new asset classes, business partners, markets, and geographies as avenues for growing the business. The Intern will actively work with the Global Strategy Group Analyst and is driven, able to learn on the job, and will be able to contribute immediately.

  • Develop an understanding of the firm’s investment strategies and capabilities

  • Assist in preparing proposals and presentations on new product ideas and strategies

  • Research new market and new product opportunities

  • Support reporting requirements for clients, especially as it relates to investment strategies and market updates

Business Strategy and Specialist Relations NEFI

The Summer Analyst will support the Business Strategy and Specialist Relations Team within Nuveen’s Equities and Fixed Income organization, which represents over $850 billion in assets under management across several distinguished investment specialists.  The Team is responsible for planning and executing the organization’s strategic initiatives designed to position its investment capabilities for growth and strong performance. Many of the initiatives underway are transformative, and are focused on investment team integrations, restructurings, operating model optimization, and compensation/incentive plan design. Additional responsibilities include managing relationships with investment specialists; partnering with Nuveen’s distribution, product, and marketing teams to showcase investment capabilities to clients; working closely with shared services (human resources, information technology, operations and finance) on cross-functional projects; and reporting on strategic initiatives to Nuveen and TIAA’s Boards and other stakeholders. 

  • Assist in developing presentations, memorandums, financial analyses, communications, and project plans that support the organization’s strategic initiatives

  • Participate in Team meetings and provide progress reports on key initiatives

  • Develop an understanding of Nuveen’s investment specialists and capabilities

  • Gain familiarity with leading asset managers and industry trends

Equity or Fixed Income Research

Nuveen, a global leader in asset management, is seeking highly motivated interns to join our research team, specializing in either Equity or Fixed Income Research. This internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in analyzing stocks (equities) or bonds (fixed income) to support investment decision-making. Ideal for candidates passionate about financial markets, this role offers a valuable foundation for a career in investment research.

  • Conduct company and industry analysis by collecting and evaluating financial data and market trends

  • Build and maintain financial models to forecast company performance.

  • Prepare equity research reports and recommendations for portfolio managers and senior analysts.

  • Analyze fixed income instruments, including corporate and government bonds, and assess credit markets.

  • Assist in creating financial models to evaluate bond performance and risk factors.

  • Generate reports on fixed income trends and provide investment recommendations

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

  • Expected Graduation date between December 2025– June 2027

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

DESIRED SKILLS (Preferred not required ):

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in related fields including Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Communications, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics or similar degree programs

  • Internship experience is a plus

  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving/analytical skills

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and deliver on commitments

  • Previous internship or work experience a plus

  • Demonstrated interest within the investment management industry is preferred

  • Independent and original thinker

  • Self-discipline and self-motivation

  • Strong level of integrity with an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Minimum of 2 years of working knowledge or academic experience in using Microsoft Office products or similar products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Anticipated Posting End Date:

Base Pay Range: $18.75/hr. - $27.40/hr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
