Nuveen Investments AVP, Cloud Development Manager. in Charlotte, North Carolina

The Senior Lead Application Developer job is responsible for overseeing the analysis, programming, and configuration of information technology systems software. This job develops complex software components and advises developers on best methods of software development and code creation. While working with the leadership team, this job provides project leadership for software development activities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitors development work to ensure resulting software meets established goals.

  • Identifies and analyzes business needs, conducting requirements gathering, and defining scope and objectives for the information technology system.

  • Oversees the configuration, customization, diagnoses, and enhancements for operating systems software.

  • Designs, codes and develops, and unit tests applications in accordance with established standards.

  • Performs detailed design and code reviews and addresses findings appropriately.

  • Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals.

This position requires in an experienced information technology professional with an advanced level of knowledge and experience in the development and management of the tools, platforms and interfaces that support cloud architecture, data stores and operational activities.

Software development with experience in e-commerce, enterprise and high-performance web technologies is a plus. Familiarity with development methods & tools:Â Agile Development Methodologies; Test Driven Development (TDD); Object-Oriented Design & Development is desired.


  • Five (5) years of IT experience or equivalent professional experience with Programming/DBMS/Data Store experience

  • Two (2) years of experience with AWS - With multiple AWS services beyond traditional IaaS. Familiarity with AWS Cloud products (EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda, Aurora, Dynamo DB, Post Gre SQL, QuickSight, Athena, SPICE, EMR, DMS data migration, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, etc.) experience.

  • One (1) years of infrastructure and database automation/programming capability using Terraform

  • Experience in CI/CD tools (Chef, Ansible, or Puppet, Jenkins, Github, Git, Maven, Docker, Atom) and AWS services such as CodeBuild/Commit/Deploy or third-party tools such as ElectricFlow.

  • Two (2) years of demonstrated programming ability, skillset in designing and developing automation scripts such as Python or TerraForm

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent


  • Hands on experience with Java, C#, Python or TerraForm or other language.

  • Strong Database and middleware experience in cloud and on-prem (e.g. Oracle, MYSQL, PostGre, MongoDB, NodeJS, Â Apache)

  • Strong compute, storage N/W, Linux, AD, NAS exposure

  • AWS Cloud Strategy: Business Case development, application assessment, and migration planning, Cloud Operating Model designÂ

  • Security: Compliance, Cloud Security Architecture, third-party security tools/platforms, encryption/KMS/CloudHSM, Azure AD, IAM policies/roles etc.Â

  • Cloud Native Application Architecture: AWS PaaS/SaaS services, Server less architecture, Lambda, API Gateway, Lightweight architectures including JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS/React) and single page web applications.

  • Proficient with JSON

  • Possess either an AWS Associate or Professional Certification

  • Good to have experience in:Â Java, NodeJs, Groovy, Front-end developer skillset . J2EE, .NET Framework, AngularJS, jQuery, AJAX, LINQ, JSON, GWT, Flex, Web Services, XML, HTML, CSS

Potential Salary: $188,000.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).Â
