TIAA Data Journalist – Visualization Analyst in Charlotte, North Carolina

Data Analyst

The Data Analyst will be a key member of the TIAA Financial Services (TFS) Insights & Analytics team reporting into the Head of Strategic Initiatives and will be responsible for transforming data into compelling visual stories that will have a direct impact on intermediate to executive level business decisions in addition to the data tools leveraged by the companies power users.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leverage strong research and writing skills in partnering with analytic teams to clean and prepare data for optimal visualconceptualization

  • Acquire, process, parse and occasionally combine diverse datasets while creatively looking for opportunities to tell storiesin new and different ways by visualizing data

  • Serve as in-house expert in the proper use of information graphics

  • Build out data visualization needs for longer term projects & stay abreast of the latest tools and techniques in data visualization and story-telling

  • Experienced candidate must possess at least 3 years of hands on experience designing and building data visualizations with an understanding of the appropriate chart types to use to highlight patterns in the data.

  • 1+ years of experience quantifying, tabulating and analyzing large, complex volumes of data to transform the data into actionable insights.

  • Business Administration/Management Analytics, Journalism, Communication, Computer Science, Statistics or related field

  • 1+ years of experience using Tableau and/or other data visualization tools.

  • 1+ years of experience building data visualization dashboards.


  • Hands on data journalist experience.

  • 1+ years of experience with python and/or R programming.

  • 1+ years of modeling experience using a variety of regression and supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.

  • Additional Technical Skills and Abilities include proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, Tableau, Python or R.

  • Well organized in thoughts; passion for data driven visual and written storytelling.

Minimum Pay: $50,600.00
