Client Data Stewardship Lead

Responsible for day-to-day data management and data governance practices within the client data domain to ensure data meets the requirements and expectations of the business. Provides management and leadership of data requirements, scope, and decision making with respect to sourcing, metadata, and data quality, for data domain(s) of responsibility. Responsible for facilitating and expediting resolution of data issues, including escalation if needed, and reporting data issues to the enterprise end-to-end issue management process

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring that data within the domain (inclusive of internal systems of record, 3rd party external data sources and master data platforms) meets business requirements for both operational and analytical use cases of that data.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all data within the domain has complete business metadata captured and maintained in the appropriate metadata repository or data catalog. Partners with domain owners, domain stakeholders, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define and capture metadata and partners with resources responsible for updating the repository/catalog.

  • Partners with IT and Data Engineering partners to ensure technical metadata and lineage metadata is captured and maintained in the appropriate metadata repository or data catalog.

  • Responsible for ensuring that data within the domain meets business requirements and Data Policy and Data Standards for data quality. Ensures that data quality requirements are included in product/system development process, both at the source and throughout the data supply chain (acquire/curate/publish/consume), in partnership with IT and Data Engineering partners.

  • Responsible for ensuring that data quality is measured (metrics) both at the source and throughout the data supply chain (acquire/curate/publish/consume) process. Provides metrics and reporting requirements to IT and Data Engineering partners and consumes that information to assist in monitoring quality.

  • Ensures data is compliant with Enterprise policies, regulatory requirements and legal/contractual commitments. Partners with policy owners and risk/compliance teams to ensure compliance requirements are understood and participates in any risk/compliance reviews, audits and exams.

  • Acts as the go-to Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the data domain(s), partnering with other SMEs in the business stakeholders, IT and Data Engineering teams to ensure coverage of expertise across the domain(s).

  • Responsible for oversight of Data Issue Management processes to ensure that data issues are captured, tracked and resolved in a timely manner, with appropriate escalation and status reporting as needed. Facilitates problem resolution on complex issues requiring cross-functional coordination.

  • Responsible directly to the Data/Domain Owner and additionally on a matrix basis to the TIAA Enterprise Data Committee and the Nuveen Data Council.

Required Qualifications:

  • Five years of leadership ability to execute and coordinate data management and data governance practices across multiple teams and stakeholders.

  • Five years of experience problem-solving skills and ability to facilitate problem identification, resolution and escalation across multiple business and technology disciplines.

  • Five years of experience with data management and data governance practices and associated tools.

  • Five years of knowledge and experience to act as a SME for the data domain(s) or the ability to attain and maintain the needed subject matter expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and influence skills; ability to communicate and interact with multiple levels of management and the ability to communicate and interact with both business, IT and Data Engineering teams.

  • Knowledge and experience in the business context and business use of the data within the data domain(s) (e.g. business acumen) or the ability to attain and maintain the needed business acumen.

  • Knowledge and experience in enterprise policies, relevant regulations and legal/contractual commitments as needed to sufficiently govern the data domain(s) or the ability to attain and maintain the required understanding of compliance requirements and processes.

Potential Salary: $170,600.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).Â
