Nuveen Investments VP, Head of Fixed Income Technology in Charlotte, North Carolina
The Head of Fixed Income Trading Technology position is a critical role in the Global Investments technology organization, supporting the Nuveen Front Office investment team. The successful candidate will work closely with portfolio management and trading leadership, as well as middle office operations and various Nuveen technology teams, to implement, design, and support the fixed income technology environment. This role will play a key position in leading the technology team through several new strategic initiatives that will transform and significantly broaden Nuveen’s fixed income capabilities. The role will also have responsibility for leading the team through software development best practices, while deploying solutions that both delight our internal clients and are operationally supportable and scalable.
The ideal candidate is comfortable in a high-performance, fast-paced, environment. Well-developed analytical skills and superb written and verbal communication skills are a must.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
• Lead a growing group of developers, analysts, and project managers to develop & support applications aligned to Nuveen’s Taxable Fixed Income and Private Placements business.
• Provide technology leadership as well as domain and data expertise in fixed income and private placement products
• Perform analysis and evaluation of new data sources, products, and solutions used in the fixed income space
• Research new and emerging technologies, work with the team to perform proof of concepts and document results, and assess technology viability/adoption with business partners
• Help with project management/planning activities, such as sprint planning and reporting of work done in this space
• Identify and communicate technical risks, issues, and changes for both strategic projects and business-as-usual/run activities
• Create and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates that meet SDLC standards
• Provide technical leadership to business partners to guide an informed decision-making process and successfully execute projects on time and on budget
• Interact with and drive other IT teams as required to leverage enterprise services and advocate for Nuveen Technology and our business partners
• Ability to participate in requirements review, with business partners and IT colleagues, to ensure full understanding and ask clarifying questions
• Ability to provide feedback and technical guidance for proposed solutions. Focus on deploying operationally supportable solutions that require minimal on-going maintenance.
5+ years of experience in an application development leadership role
8-10 years of asset management technology experience, with specific experience in order management systems and fixed income trading
Prior hands-on technology experience, designing operationally supportable and scalable solutions to address business needs / growth initiatives
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or engineering
Experience implementing and supporting Charles River Developer Investment Management System (CRIMS) and Bloomberg AIM
Knowledge of fixed income / private placement vendor products and business workflows
Experience developing software using the following:
Microsoft (C#.Net, WPF, WCF, .Net Core)
API development, especially leveraging vendor market data
DevOps Pipeline Automation (CloudBees, Terraform)
RESTful Web Services using the microservices architecture and cloud migration (AWS preferred)
Batch and Scripting Languages and Tools (Autosys / PowerShell / python / Unix shell)
SQL Server / Oracle / Amazon Aurora / RDS
Commands and utilities, some monitoring and tuning using Splunk
Experience writing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex SQL
Experience with Agile and SDLC development methodologies
Thorough understanding of front office (trading, portfolio management, and compliance) applications, with ability to design high-performing solutions
Possess analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
Desire to be a leader in a high-performing team, surrounded by other high-performing application development leaders
Potential Salary: $182,700.00 USD
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
