TIAA 2022 Early Talent Summer Internship: Nuveen Global Client Group in Chicago, Illinois


The 10-week summer internship program is designed to challenge students by providing opportunities to provide hand-on experiences, skills training and valuable professional networking to assist students with identifying and building on their career interests. This role gains experience and an overall feel for the company and the financial services industry by attending meetings, delivering presentations, exploring business-specific tasks, and working closely with cross-functional groups to better understand the Nuveen businesses.Â

The program includes a robust training and onboarding program followed by our ongoing speaker series, lunch-and-learns, and cohort engagement activities, as well as direct access to executive and senior leadership, mentors and previous interns.

Eligible interns may receive a full-time offer to join our Early Talent Rotational Program or various open positions within the organization.

Global Client Group Intern

Americas Institutional Advisory Services:

The Americas Institutional Advisory Services team is responsible for distributing Nuveen’s investment products and solutions to Americas-based institutional investors. The intern will be expected to:

  • Build an industry knowledge base by researching new business opportunities and staying current on institutional investing trends, leveraging industry publications, conference materials, consultant databases, etc.

  • Partner with distribution teams on territory management and sales strategy; utilize knowledge of Nuveen’s investment capabilities to assist in identifying suitable prospects for Nuveen

  • Coordinate responses to client, prospect and consultant inquiries; assist in the production of competitive analyses, marketing materials and data requests

  • Participate in product pitches and client review calls; identify and compile necessary follow-up items

  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of customer relationship management (CRM) systems including daily activity upkeep and participating in projects to improve data qualityÂ

US Wealth Advisory Sales and Service

(Seeking 3 interns possible locations: Chicago, Charlotte, Denver, LA)

The Nuveen US Wealth Advisory team is responsible for distributing Nuveen's products and solutions while driving growth in their territories with utilizing on the entire firm's investment affiliates and solutions to help clients address their unique challenges and goals.

  • Work directly with various members of the Sales Team while getting the opportunity to see all aspects of the sales process. This may include listening to service calls or traveling with one of our Advisor Consultants on sales meetings.

  • Shadow other departments within the organization, with the opportunity to learn other aspects of Nuveen

  • Learn three separate Nuveen Products and prepare a 3 minute Allego presentation

  • Work on a summer Capstone Project, which will be based on a real situation from one of the Sales Territories

Global Sales and Advisor Development:

(Seeking 1 intern located in Chicago)

Global Sales and Advisory Development team within Distribution is tasked with delivering a platform that supports a culture of knowledge acquisition and skill development within the Nuveen Global Client Group organization.

  • Collaborates and provides insights on current US Wealth educational programs and develops implementable improvements or changes to propose to the Global Sales & Advisor Development team

  • Helps to identify and create resources for the technology resources that the Distribution team uses on a daily basis (Cheat sheets, guides, video walk-throughs, etc.)

  • Video/presentation editing: Assist with video production and editing utilizing Allego, Camtasia, Brainshark and other platforms, as needed.

  • Content management: Update content managed by the Global Learning & Development team (product kits/talking points); post to Seismic (content management site) as changes are made. Â Â

  • Assist with tracking continued Expo Next Steps to ensure progress

  • Aide with scheduling and coordinating skill development sessions as needed

Alternative Investments Distribution

(Seeking 1 intern located in Chicago OR New York)

  • Help the team develop and maintain materials supporting various product launches and ongoing fundraising. Such materials include general Alternative Investments and product-specific marketing collateral (presentations, fact sheets, brochures, and white papers), “Go” Books supporting each product launch, and email campaigns.Â

  • Develop and maintain competitive analyses for all products.

  • Develop and maintain generic DDQs for all products.

  • Liaise with portfolio management teams to gather weekly product updates to be disseminated to sales team.

  • Gather responses/materials for RFPs, RFIs and ongoing due diligence.

  • Prepare presentations and other materials for sales meetings. This includes having presentations and other required marketing collateral printed and shipped to various meeting locations.

  • Prepare presentations for senior management to report on fundraising progress across all Alternative Investment solutions.

Global Client Group

The Global Client Services organization is comprised of three divisions – Client Services, who is tasked with delivering market-leading service to Nuveen clients, New Business Services, who partners with distribution to capitalize on new business opportunities, and Client Experience, who focuses on strategic initiatives to enhance the global platform and deliver a superior client experience. As part of the Global Client Services team, this individual will:

  • Partner with distribution, relationship management, client services, product, IT and marketing on complex change initiatives

  • Research, propose and implement industry best practices for prospecting, servicing and retention, maintaining a pulse on the ‘voice of the client’

  • Identify opportunities to improve and enhance client reporting, enterprise data, new business proposals and questionnaires, helping Nuveen deliver a differentiated experience to clients with timely execution through digital channels

  • Full-time student, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree

  • Graduation date between Winter 2022 and Spring 2024

DESIRED SKILLS (Preferred not required):

  • Minimum Overall GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in related fields including Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Communications, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics or similar degree programs

  • Internship experience is a plus

  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving/analytical skills

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and deliver on commitments

  • Previous internship or work experience a plus

  • Demonstrated interest within the investment management industry is preferred

  • Independent and original thinker

  • Self-discipline and self-motivation

  • Strong level of integrity with an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Minimum of 2 years of working knowledge or academic experience in using Microsoft Office products or similar products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Potential Salary:

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).Â
