Major Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination of the financial planning functions in support of the Nuveen Advisory Service (NAS) division, which includes distribution, product, solutions, and marketing. The candidate will be a strategic partner to the executives within NAS and as such will need to provide reporting, financial modeling, strategic insight and guidance to support decision making and execution. The position plays a key role supporting the long term growth strategy of our company and ensures we have the proper service that supports this vision.

  • Leadexpense planning and forecasting efforts for NAS, including staffing decisionsand strategic spend investments. Consult with business leaders to develop andidentify cost savings opportunities.

  • Coordinatethe joint development of sales and net flows projections in consultation withthe NAS and investment teams. Maintain ongoing projections for sales and netflows, and provide analytical analysis to illustrate to management (e.g.pipeline by channel or dry powder).

  • Providebusiness partners with a monthly review of financial results, including AUM,sales, net flows, revenue, expense and headcount.

  • Overseethe development of quarterly analytical P&Ls, which includes segmenting thebusiness by distribution organization, investment vehicle, asset class andgeography.

  • Manageallocated cost assumptions of NAS departments, and monitor costs received byproduct from within Nuveen and TIAA.

  • Collaboratewith the business to develop profitability analysis for strategic initiatives,key distribution relationships as well as the design of sales compensation programs.

  • Participateon product committee which includes the ongoing review of the existing andproposed product portfolio. Collaborate with the business to developprofitability analysis for new product launches and provide key insights forproduct pricing. Monitor ongoing product portfolio and recommend opportunitiesto streamline operations and enhance profitability. Oversee 15c regulatoryreporting supporting pricing of Nuveen fund complex.

  • Developperformance measures to support the company’s strategic direction, includingstrategic spending scorecards and appropriate benchmarking for measuring thefinancial and operating performance of the division.

  • Problem-solvesituations, with medium to high complexity, to provide relevant financial adviceand support. The challenges in this space are often new or transformational innature.

  • Providegeneral leadership for the NAS finance team, including hiring and terminationdecisions, completion of performance appraisals and development plans for directreports during the annual and interim performance evaluation process.

  • Ensurethat adequate staff and other resources are trained, available and assigned tomeet operating objectives.

Required Skills:

  • 12+ years of finance experience inprogressively larger roles, including broad management roles

  • BA Degree

Preferred Skills:


  • BADegree in Accounting or Finance

  • Master’sDegree

  • Abilityto navigate complex interpersonal situations, including influencing seniorlevel leaders regarding matters of importance to the organization or presentingbudgets, forecasts or other relevant data.

  • Develop,maintain and strengthen relationships with key business partners across theorganization.

  • Experiencewith and deep understanding of the asset management industry.

  • Abilityto manage and develop a large matrix organization working closely with othersenior management to build an effective and efficient financial planningorganization.

  • Broadunderstanding of reporting for insurance companies.

  • Excellentcommunication (written and oral), with senior leaders and peers, facilitation,interpersonal and collaborative skills.
