Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Facilitate the clearance of municipal bond trades for an affiliated investment manager through the Nuveen Broker Dealer. Proprietary software is used to send trade communications to custodians, sponsors, and dealers. This position will provide oversight of this process to ensure timely settlement of trades.

  • Process trade corrections upon instruction from portfolio management desk, updating trade detail in the portfolio accounting system and notifying all interested parties to amend or correct trades.

  • Addresses inbound inquiries from internal trading teams, sponsor programs, custodians and dealers.

  • Review and address trade comparison failures identified through industry utilities and contact the market participants who fail to submit trades for comparison.

  • Work unsupervised to resolve complex trade errors and other escalated issues.

  • Provide support presenting information to regulators and various auditors.

  • Provide team oversight in the absence of the department manager.

Educational Requirements

Nuveen is seeking a seasoned Operations Analyst III for its Broker Dealer and Trade Settlements team. This position’s duties include clearing municipal bond trades through Nuveen’s affiliated Broker Dealer to support its large Separately Managed Accounts business. The position will be responsible for settling trades for its taxable fixed income business leveraging traditional DVP/RVP protocols. This individual works closely with Traders, Dealers, and Custodians to ensure trades are recorded accurately, matched against the counterparty’s details, and recorded and settled in a timely manner by sponsors and custodians. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing their relationship management and leadership skills.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Broker Dealer Operations with a focus on trade settlements.

  • Understanding of Fixed Income securities.

  • Experience with Portfolio Accounting Systems.

  • Significant experience with industry trade matching utilities such as Omgeo products (ALERT and CTM).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with order management systems like Charles River or Investortools Perform.

  • Ability to address difficult issues and work under pressure in stressful environments.

  • Solid problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative and critically analyze processes.

  • Detail oriented and extremely thorough – having the confidence to ensure work processes are completed accurately.

  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Base Pay Range: $75,000/yr. - $125,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
