Nuveen Investments Technical Product Leader - Asset Management in Iselin, New Jersey

This Leader provides guidance and oversight for the team that completes the analysis, programming, development, and configuration of information technology (IT) systems software. This role involves driving technical decisions, managing end-to-end delivery of strategic applications, owning the application portfolio including troubleshooting and being capable of hands-on coding if called on. Strong leadership skills and a proven track record of delivering high quality, scalable solutions are essential. This job coaches team members on the best methods of software development and operational goal setting. Working with the leadership team, this role shapes the culture and future technical direction of the Product Technology team.

This high visibility role will lead Nuveen’s multi-year engineering effort to build out our Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) platform, including building a global team, refining internal SMA processes, building investment capabilities for differentiation, implementing a digital advisor experience, etc. This influential leader is a hands-on technologist who will lead the team forward in building technology solutions ground-up with a roll-up their sleeves, delivery focused mindset.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Communicates and implements the strategic direction of the operation.

  • Drives the development and implementation of new products, processes, and operational plans.

  • Provides guidance and recommendations to maximize the outcomes of development investments for the application development department.

  • Collaborate with IT partners to devise capacity plan and ensure appropriate infrastructure for the end-to-end system delivery.

  • Defines scope and objectives for software development team goals.

  • Reviews the configuration, customization, diagnosis and enhancements of software and application development created by the information technology (IT) team.

  • Manages performance of team members through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional service and engagement, motivation, and development of team.

Skills Required:

  • 8+ years experience in Technology Management or adjacent roles (could include engineering, strategy, system architecture, etc.) with an emphasis on technical and enterprise products.

  • 5+ years of experience leading engineers in product development at a financial services/asset management company.

  • Experience managing resources and projects across multiple regions.

  • Hands on experience implementing software solutions with AWS, java, and React.

  • Experience in technical decision making such as component buy v. build decisions, component design (APIs, microservices), data architecture/database design.

  • Prior experience as a software engineer writing code, optimizing for scale, and supporting enterprise applications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Use analytical skills and strategic perspective to identify trends & recommend solutions that will help improve the user experience.

  • Experience Supporting Asset Management Product (mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs, Alts, Retirement, etc.) teams to ensure the identification of technical problems, and devise solutions as they relate to the current and future business environment.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with design, analytics, engagement, project management, and engineering.

  • Assist in coordinating communications, escalations, and facilitates resolution of risks, issues, and changes tied to the trade life cycle initiatives.

  • Utilizes relevant reporting tools to report on and analyze key metrics.

  • Support activities associated with rapid and iterative development.

  • Greenfield development experience.

  • Microservices, cloud (AWS a MUST), open-source technology, and investment technology.

Anticipated Posting End Date:

Base Pay Range: $138,800/yr. - $236,800/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
