TIAA Software Engineer in LEWISVILLE, Texas

The Security Engineer will be responsible for understanding security solutions and partnering with the operational users of those security solutions to ensure that the underlying technology is sufficiently meeting the needs of the overall Cybersecurity department as well as suggesting, understanding requirements, developing, documenting, and implementing enhancements to key technologies. This role will require flexible hours and expanding responsibilities for new technology.


  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for various enterprise security solutions, primarily SailPoint IIQ, Javascript, BeanShell, GitLab, MSSQL Warehouse, best security practice, and stable operation while enhancing existing solutions

  • Partner with security architecture on implementing and improving security solutions

  • Champion the technical details of security solution initiatives including business case

  • Continually assess security controls for deficiencies then remediate

  • Measure and report key performance indicators for responsible solutions including effectiveness of control activities, uptime, and enhancement demand

  • Assist engineering partners in skills development and on-call backup

  • Track effort metrics to ensure transparency and KPI visibility

  • Leverage previous experience with large, modern technology environments, their challenges, common approaches to overcome their challenges, and their inherent security strengths and weaknesses


Required Skills:

  • 5 or more years experience in information security.

  • 3 or more years of experience with JavaScript development.

Preferred Skills:

  • 3 years secure application development experience

  • Associates or advanced degree in computer science, information technology

  • Experience with developing specific identity management technologies (SailPoint IIQ,SIQ, warehouse/data lake environment)

  • Excellent ability to calculate both risk and return on investment

  • Capability to mock-up UI in a variety of tools for large-scale development efforts

  • Experience with administering enterprise server Operating Systems (e.g., Windows, RHEL, etc.)

  • Experience with large, modern technology environments, their challenges, common approaches to overcome their challenges, and their inherent security strengths and weaknesses

  • Capability to judge between competing priorities and analyze outcomes for lessons learned

  • Capacity to communicate technical information in understandable business terms

  • Ability to deliver results in a team environment, as well as independently

  • Must be able to understand, update, and create world-class documentation within days of starting

  • Experience with secure development practices and change control

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, etc.)

  • Experience with or knowledge of various platform security tools and scoring concepts (e.g., AV, HIPS, firewalls, CVSS, OWASP 10, etc.)

  • Experience with or knowledge of various databases (e.g., Oracle, MS-SQL, etc.)

  • General information security certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, etc.)

  • Experience in the Financial Services industry
