Nuveen Infrastructure’s European clean energy team manages funds which invest in renewable power generation assets in Europe for an AUM value in excess of €3bn. The funds are invested in a mix of capital appreciation and cash flow generative assets. The funds target assets in development, construction or in operation across the main technologies of onshore wind, offshore wind and solar PV battery storage, hydropower and bioenergy across Western Europe. Since 2007, Nuveen Infrastructure has invested in 119 clean energy infrastructure projects representing 6.9 + GW in total. The team comprises 70+ professional professionals dedicated to clean energy across equity and credit.
Overview of the Role:
The Asset Controller will be the ultimate responsible party for the commercial and operational performance of a platform/IPP, overseeing all activities and acting as the central contact point for internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will drive and manage all commercial aspects concerning operations and asset management of the platform. The ideal candidate will be willing to expand their technical and commercial skills to support the growth of the company. In addition, this specific role gives the opportunity to become part of the Asset Management team, managing a specific portfolio of assets and learning best in class operational management skills.
Key responsibilities:
Commercial management of platforms of renewable assets with special focus on development, wind, photovoltaic, batteries, hybrid projects, or any other technology that is suitable for investment within the funds commitments, either under development, construction, or operation, and across different geographies.
Commercial involvement in all aspects of a platform. Contributing to board meetings, internal and external reporting, business plans, operational and investment strategy, marketing and management presentations whilst ensuring compliance with Fund restrictions.
Work alongside the platform team at all levels and have an understanding of the different areas of the business: development, construction, operation, finance and revenues.
Understanding and management of Technical and Commercial Management Agreement providers as well as other third party contractors. Oversight, promotion, and enhancement of the asset’s performance.
Coordination and oversight of different workstreams within the platform together with the platform team and the internal Fund Finance Team, the Head of Revenues, the Investment Team and the Divestment Team.
Preparation and management, with the support of the external contractors, of the platform budget.
Update of rolling cash forecasts to identify any potential breach or upside, and management of funding of projects in collaboration with the Fund Finance team.
Managing and validating the monthly closures, invoicing, and payment supervision.
Support during the formulation of the annual accounts and the audit processes.
Management of the distributions to investors from the asset perspective.
Management the financing agreements and comply with all the corresponding undertakings from the project side to maximize distributions.
Support Oversight Tax
Manage tax advisors
Oversight of asset tax compliance and structuring with the support of the external contractors
Support delivery of asset transfer pricing exercises if applicable
Takeover, from the Investment Team, and integrate in the existing portfolio, new investments from the operational, legal, accounting, tax, financial and modelling viewpoint.
Support monthly / Quarterly Reports: control and analysis of performance of operating assets against approved budgets and P&L. Detailed analysis will include production figures, liquidated damages and insurance claims, and any imbalance in Opex.
Support delivery asset management and IPP monthly / quarterly pack. Collect, review and provide once validated all appropriate information required by the AMC in relation to the fund portfolio. Additionally, produce comprehensive reports to the AMC and investors on the performance of the operating assets, and any ad hoc request.
Support the development of best-in-class reporting standards
Support the Fund Finance team or the Investors Relations team with investor reporting process and ad hoc queries
Oversight and coordination preparation of financial Reporting Use of the portfolio reporting tool to identify asset level performance and up to date issues
Internal coordination and ad-hoc tasks
Report directly to the Head of Portfolio Controlling and work alongside the other asset and fund controllers.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Minimum 5 years relevant working experience in commercial asset management, asset management or project management.
Financial knowledge of renewable energy projects
Technical knowledge of different renewable technologies is desirable.
Hybrid interest in commercial and technical aspects of asset management
Transaction experience desirable (from origination to execution)
Financial modelling experience desirable
Relevant experience of power industry required
Fluent English required with additional European languages preferable
Candidates must have the right to work in the UK
Experience with Project finance documentation and interaction desirable
