Nuveen Investments Nuveen Natural Capital - Sustainability Director, Timberland - Based in London, UK in London, United Kingdom
This role is part of the Global Sustainability function within Nuveen Natural Capital. You will be playing a key role to define and implement tactics to support their sustainability strategy within the timberland assets.
You will work closely with Head of Timberland and Operations at all stages to ensure the practicability and commercial relevance of approaches. Act as an internal and external representative for Timberland Sustainability, with representation on the ESG Committee, Nuveen Real Asset and external forums as required.Â
Key Responsibilities and Duties
â¢Â Â Â Work with the business units, research and sustainability in the creation of an ESG framework which is complimentary to the Farmland ESG Framework (âTimber Profileâ)
â¢Â Â Â Lead the implementation of the âTimber Profileâ, and work with the business units and data management teams to ensure completion and evolution of the profile
â¢Â Â Â Support the creation and gathering of data which would support a natural capital balance sheet for timberland
â¢Â Â Â Coordinate social programs such as Fruits of Employment, or any other initiatives to provide social equity and timberland education
â¢Â Â Â Work with data management, research, global sustainability, and operational teams in the methodology and reporting of carbon emissions. Identify how existing methodologies could evolve, particularly in the context of including Scope 3 emissions
â¢Â Â Â Coordinate the implementation of carbon projects through the lifetime of the project, leveraging expert resources within research and operations
â¢Â Â Â Together with expert resources within NNC, identify pathways for reducing carbon emission footprints (across all scopes) and increasing broader natural capital benefits
â¢Â Â Â Identify and engage with international working groups, as appropriate to the NNC sustainability strategy. This could include: WBCSD Forest solution group, GHG protocol for Land use, UN PRI. Identify key sustainability trends and international community discussions for reporting back to the broader sustainability and timberland management teams
â¢Â Â Â Act as the timberland representative for key strategic partnerships which support NNC sustainability. This includes The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Princeton/WRI grant. Provide input into strategy, and project manage the implementation of specific projects
â¢Â Â Â Support the gathering of timberland data and narrative in the creation of NNC Sustainability reports, and other external reporting requirements
Qualifications & Experience Required
â¢Â Â Â Â Undergraduate and/or (preferably) Graduate degree (or equivalent) in, Environmental Management, Ecology, Business, Economics, Agribusiness, Forestry or other as appropriate.
â¢Â Â Â 5 to 7 years industry experience ideally within the within the forestry/timberland value chain (private sector or NGO)
â¢Â Â Â Knowledge and understanding of forestry/timberland including its environmental and social impacts with experience in biodiversity, resilience, carbon measurement and sustainability of systems
â¢Â Â Â Experience with regulations, protocols, policies, certification schemes and broader incentives that support sustainable timberland management.
â¢Â Â Â Leadership and project management experience
â¢Â Â â¢Â Â Â Knowledge of GIS data and mapping systems is a distinct advantage
â¢Â Â Â Ability to travel 10-20% annually; domestic and international
