Position Summary

Nuveen, the investment manager of TIAA, is one of the largest asset managers in the world with more than $1.2tn in AUM as of December 31, 2020 and is a leader in Alternative Investments with $222bn AUM across our Alternatives platform. The Real Assets Specialist position is responsible for leading the distribution of the firm’s real asset investment capabilities including renewable infrastructure, farmland and timberland portfolios across a range of investment vehicles. The Asset Class Specialist partners with Sales, Consultant Relations, Product, Marketing and Investments to best position Nuveen’s real assets capabilities with prospective and existing clients, primarily in the Institutional channel. The Asset Class Specialist is a subject matter expert, possessing deep familiarity of real assets but also an experienced capital raiser with a track record of developing new business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the growth and retention of Nuveen’s Real Asset Products including Infrastructure, Farmland, & Timberland capabilities

  • Bring a Real Asset rolodex to accelerate new opportunities with RA-buyers at institutions with >$10bn assets

  • Proactively partner with Nuveen Sales and Consultant Relations teams to identify prospective clients and opportunities

  • Provide support to existing investors by serving as an expert point of contact for investment-related questions, assisting in DD process and investor events

  • Support Sales and Relationship Management teams with responses to specific questions about strategies and products, and general questions about real asset investments

  • Actively manage real assets pipeline opportunities in partnership with Sales Leadership

  • Distinguish Nuveen’s real asset products/solutions from those of other competitors

  • Provide feedback from investors and clients to Nuveen’s Product Group to inform new products and solutions to meet client needs

  • Gather/share/analyse relevant market information particular with respect to trends in investor allocations, competitor analysis and industry trends

  • Work closely with Nuveen Marketing Team to ensure Marketing Materials are best in class and clearly articulate the strategies for the respective target audience


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the investment management industry, selling and marketing real assets investment strategies to investors

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year university; MBA, CFA or CAIA is a plus

  • Knowledge of, and experience with real asset investment strategies across both equity and debt

  • Strong sales and client service orientation

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex investment assets and strategies

  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills

  • Ability to work with individuals and teams across the organization

  • Ability to establish and build effective working relationships with both internal and external clients
