Nuveen Investments Technology - Senior Application Packaging and Deployment Engineer, Based in London in London, United Kingdom
The Senior Application Packaging and Deployment Engineer designs information systems that are appropriate for users' needs and consistent with the overall design of the organization's information systems architecture. Under limited supervision, this job is responsible as part of the Unified Software Delivery Services (USDS) team, the ownership of the application packaging lifecycle. This includes (but not limited to) managing requests, incidents, changes, application discovery, documenting of application details, automating installations, configuration of application installations, publishing of packaged software using appropriate deployment mechanisms and maintenance of the organization's, application estate and operating systems.
Key responsibilities:
Assisting the global USDS team as a dedicated local regional presence in a globally considerate business environment.
Design high quality, scalable application packages for a multi-regional cloud hosted environment based on technical considerations highlighted by the discovery process.
Embrace a ‘one package for all’ mindset, using conditional logic where appropriate.
Support the USDS team to identify and raise risk to set expectations and meet demand.
Represent the USDS team in both business as usual (BAU) and project meetings to feedback progress for all assigned tasks.
Working with business champions, application subject matter expert’s (SME) and vendors as necessary to deliver all tasks.
Own and manage the end-to-end application packaging lifecycle (Request, Discovery, Packaging, QA, Publishing, Deployment, UAT, Upgrade, Uninstall, Retirement).
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security and Asset Management teams to ensure all project applications are onboarded correctly, meeting the agreed strategy, licensing, and security standards.
Provide technical guidance within the organization as an Application Packaging SME.
Maintain agreed technical standards
Demonstrate high responsiveness to technology incidents, resolving issues quickly, efficiently and with integrity.
Lead problem response and analysis to root cause through partnerships with other engineers, teams, and SMEs to ensure knowledge is captured and actions taken to prevent and support future events.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
Competencies Required
Minimum 10+ Years’ experience as an Application Packaging and Deployment Engineer.
Good experience of deployment/management tools such as MECM/SCCM/Citrix Studio/Intune/AutoPilot.
Excellent understanding of the mechanics of Windows Operating Systems (x86/x64, XP-Windows 11).
Must have a ‘big picture’ approach to software configuration and deployment, understanding relevant technical architecture and considering the global context including how solutions will scale in the future.
Emphasis on a modular approach to software packaging and looking to consolidate software packages as appropriate.
Excellent troubleshooting skills across a variety of different technical environments and use cases, including (but not limited to) installation, deployment, application performance and policy (Group/MECM/Citrix) troubleshooting. Should have good working knowledge of SysInternal Tools Suite (ProcMon, ProcExplorer, PSExec etc) and network troubleshooting tools (such as NetMon, WireShark, Fiddler etc).
Experience of working in global virtual environments (including persistent, non-persistent, on-prem, cloud and thin client builds).
Proven background of packaging multiple application packaging formats, MSI, APP-V, PowerShell scripting.
Strong knowledge on virtualised application packaging techniques (APP-V/MSIX), Containerised packaging solutions.
Knowledge of Application Layering/Container technologies (MSIX AppAttach/Numecent CloudPaging).
Excellent knowledge of application types, local installations, virtualised installations, add-ins, browser extensions, legacy install setups, x86/x64 configurations, Software as a Service (SAAS) and auto update technologies.
Strong risk management, the role requires understanding of the impact of decisions made and the risk associated.
Excellent documentation skills and data analysis skills, ability to create packaging documentation, workflows and all other related documentation (M365).
Must be considerate of regulatory policy, security, networking, profile management and user data/storage.
Work to industry standard guidelines (ITIL/Agile).
