Nuveen Investments Technology - Senior Lead Application Discovery and Deployment Engineer. Based in London in London, United Kingdom
The Senior Lead Application Discovery and Deployment Engineer will work with the Unified Software Delivery Services (USDS) team to ensure delivery of a major global IT integration project. They will lead the project and business as usual (BAU) application packaging and discovery efforts to deliver all required application packages to the best-fit format based on the specific challenges of each application and scenario. The successful candidate will work on all parts of the application packaging process, including discovery, packaging, publishing, testing and end of life processes and be the focal point for liaising with business and technical colleagues in the region, highlighting any risks or concerns as necessary.
Key responsibilities:
Assisting the USDS team leader as a dedicated local regional presence to support required project activities.
Contribute to the designing high quality, scalable application packages for a multi-platform environment (physical and virtual devices, on-prem/cloud, persistent/non-persistent) based on technical considerations highlighted by the discovery process, embracing a ‘one package for all’ mindset.
Engage with partners to understand specific application requirements and understanding the potential impact within the context of the global environment.
Install and configure applications as part of the validation process for discovery, documenting all relevant information to the agreed USDS standards.
Manage discovery and test environment to ensure clean discovery and testing process.
As a technical leader, work with the USDS team to identify and raise risk to set expectations and meet business demand.
Represent the USDS team at partner meetings to feedback progress on all assigned tasks as well as identifying any risk/concerns, while offering technical leadership.
Working with business champions, application subject matter expert’s (SME) and vendors as necessary to deliver all tasks.
Own and manage the end-to-end application packaging lifecycle during the project (Request, Discovery, Packaging, QA, Publishing, UAT, Deployment, Upgrade, Uninstall, Retirement).
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security and Asset Management teams to ensure all project applications are onboarded correctly, meeting the agreed strategy, licencing, and security standards, protecting the integrity of the application estate.
Provide technical leadership within the organization as an Application Packaging SME.
Demonstrate leadership to resolving technology issues, quickly, efficiently and with integrity. Embracing a no-blame culture, collaborating to fix issues and provide long-term strategic solutions that are fully documented.
Leads problem response and analysis to root cause through partnerships with other project engineers, teams, and subject matter experts to ensure knowledge is captured and actions taken to prevent and support future events.
Develop and maintain agreed technical standards.
Continually identify areas for improvement, reduce technical debt within all team processes, design solutions and implement proven solutions which can be measured.
Work with in-house application developers to create application solutions for team productivity and automation.
Help define and set Discovery Quality Assurance (QA) standards for relevant team tasks and ensure high quality peer-review performed throughout team.
Mentor and train USDS colleagues as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
- Batchelor Degree Preferred.
Competencies Required
Minimum 12+ Years’ experience as an Application Discovery Engineer.
Proven experience as a Lead Application Discovery Engineer.
Highly experienced in software lifecycle management for software integration projects and must have thorough knowledge of application packaging processes including, licencing, discovery, QA, packaging, publishing, UAT, deployments, retirement etc.
Excellent understanding of the mechanics of Windows Operating Systems (x86/x64, XP-Windows 11).
Must have a ‘big picture’ approach to software configuration and deployment, understanding relevant technical architecture and considering the global context including how solutions will scale in the future.
Emphasis on a modular approach to software packaging and looking to consolidate software packages as appropriate.
Excellent troubleshooting skills across a variety of different technical environments and use cases, including (but not limited to) installation, deployment, application performance and policy (Group/MECM/Citrix) troubleshooting.
Should have excellent working knowledge of SysInternal Tools Suite (ProcMon, ProcExplorer, PSExec etc) and network troubleshooting tools (such as NetMon, WireShark, Fiddler etc) and be able to demonstrate advanced troubleshooting techniques.
Experience of delivering projects in global virtual environments (including persistent, non-persistent, on-prem, cloud and thin client builds).
Proven background of packaging multiple application packaging formats, MSI, APP-V, PowerShell scripting.
Strong knowledge on virtualised application packaging techniques (APP-V/MSIX), Containerised packaging solutions.
Knowledge of Application Layering/Container technologies (MSIX AppAttach/Numecent CloudPaging).
Excellent knowledge of application types, local installations, virtualised installations, add-ins, browser extensions, legacy install setups, x86/x64 configurations, Software as a Service (SAAS) and auto update technologies.
Good experience of deployment/management tools such as MECM/SCCM/Citrix Studio/Intune/AutoPilot.
Strong risk management, the role requires understanding of the impact of decisions made and the risk associated.
Excellent documentation skills and data analysis skills, ability to create packaging documentation, workflows, and all other project related documentation (M365).
Must be considerate of regulatory policy, security, networking, profile management and user data/storage.
Useful to have enterprise knowledge of MAC OS and JAMF.
Work to industry standard guidelines (ITIL/Agile).
