Nuveen Investments Solar Asset Engineer in Madrid, Spain

Glennmont Partners is a company that invests in renewable energy through its funds. The Company is part of Nuveen. Glennmont has raised circa €4bn for investment in onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaic and bioenergy power generation assets since its inception.

The Company’s core teams focus on clean energy equity investments, credit investments, and asset & portfolio management. Glennmont Partners is expanding, currently preparing other products for market launch in 2024 and beyond. The team comprises approximately 60 professionals evenly split between the investment team and the asset management team

Overview of the Role:

Reviewing and assessing the performance of the asset managers and plants under their control, ensuring that issues are addressed by appropriate parties in time, and commercial/financial impacts are communicated within the Asset Management Team promptly. This will be through regular calls, and scheduled face to face meetings with the counterparts.

Scheduled and ad-hoc as required site visits and counterpart meetings across the sites is an important way for ensuring that the workload is managed and tasks for all parties are assigned and completed on time. This job has a role in managing these expectations.

Using the in-house Greenbyte/Powerfactors system for performance analytics to identify and address issues before they impact on the returns and saleability of the projects.

Closing out open issues and ensuring issues are documented fully, and uploaded to the corporate DMS.

Working closely with the other members of the technical team and asset controllers in the commercial team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Principal Solar Engineer on solar related plant issues, improvements, and projects. Including:

  • Technical performance

  • Issues and outages

  • Construction oversight

  • Revamping and repowering

  • Support the PV Development team for the pipeline of new build projects

  • Coordinate work output from and to internal and external providers (asset managers, developers, legal counsel, technical advisors, contractors, insurance advisors)

  • Report internally on asset issues, performance, and impact on the SPV & fund (both internally to the team, and to the Asset Management Committee)

  • Report externally as required to investors, lenders, insurance, and regulatory bodies.

  • Support the investment team on technical aspects of acquisition, financing, re-finance, and divestment of assets.

  • Review of TCMA reports and preparation of monthly & quarterly asset management reports.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Construction or Operational management experience (either direct or through asset management) of solar or renewable energy plant

  • Contract management (EPC, O&M, TCMA) including application of contract clauses, development of contract clauses and review of contracts.

  • Awareness of commercial drivers/impacts as a result of decisions and timelines.

  • Budgeting development and application

  • Understanding of project finance transaction and application in the load period (i.e requirements to be met by the borrower)

  • Dynamic ability to prioritise workload, based on various drivers (for example, health & safety, revenue expectations, plant integrity, value protection)

  • Commitment to deadlines (imposed and self-imposed)

  • Communication skills

  • Solid IT Skills (MS Office, MS Project)

  • Fluent English required

  • Additional European languages are a bonus (Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German or French)

  • Must have the right to work in the EU
