Assoc, Index Equity PM

The Associate, Index Equity Portfolio Management job maintains and manages the Equity Index Team's investment infrastructure, conducts research of current and new strategies, and assists in managing equity portfolios to optimize investment performance consistent with investment portfolio objectives and risk profiles. While working independently under general supervision, this job assists senior staff in all phases of large scale multi-disciplinary projects while influencing others within the job area through their knowledge and experience.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assists portfolio managers in designing and developing systems and operational efficiencies to improve investment infrastructure.

  • Monitors internal and external relationships with key business unit contacts, partners, and suppliers as they relate to investment portfolios.

  • Completes research, including background research, corporate relationships and the valuation and recommendation of the securities, and performs financial valuation for securities.

  • Monitors research and analysis of daily investment activities to ensure their success, and recommends actions to portfolio managers as needed.

  • Researches and documents investment buying and selling strategies that deliver a business advantage and maximizes the investment portfolio.

  • Analyzes the investment merit of all types of securities and recommends sales of securities, reinvestment of proceeds, and investment of new cash funds.

  • Assists a small team in managing multi billion dollars in index, ETF, and socially responsible investment strategies for both institutional and retail clients.

  • Assists portfolio managers in management of cash for funds, to make maximum use of available funds, within established company policies and cash requirements.

  • Reviews the investment of company funds, the impact of index changes and develops recommendations for portfolio managers review

  • Contributes to the trading (including portfolio rebalancing and trade lists submissions), research, and underwriting of the company’s investment portfolio.

Career Level


Fluency in a statistical coding language (Python, R, SAS, etc.) is highly preferable. Must have excellent technical skills and attention to detail.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain/manage processes that support the investment process

  • Point person for corporate action decisions across the firm

  • Assist in management of cash for funds

  • Review impact of index changes to funds and notify PM of material changes

  • Manage portfolios (time frame dependent upon experience), which includes portfolio rebalancing, reviewing, and submitting trade lists.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelors degree in science (math/science/engineering) or social sciences (finance/economics)

  • Basic knowledge of financial markets and quantitative techniques

  • Understand the various benchmark construction methodologies and how they affect the management of portfolios

  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to improve efficiency through technology/automation

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with UNIX/LINUX navigation and scripting

  • Prefer CFA or CFA candidate, or other investment related credential (e.g. CIPM, CFP)

  • Familiarity with a programming language (SAS, Python, R, etc.)


Minimum Pay: $94,000.00
