Nuveen Investments Assistant Vice President, Investment Operations - Nuveen in New York, New York
The Investment Operations job supervises para-professionals that are responsible for operational activities for the investment function. This job manages administrative/transactional operational processes pertinent to trade processing, settlements, securities transfer and record maintenance. As a team supervisor, this job sets day-to-day operational objectives for team members and ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Supervises trading and balancing of institutional accounts, ensuring compliance with model portfolios from portfolio managers.
Manages the administration of asset management operational processes including trade processing, settlements, and securities transfers, ensuring quality, accuracy and completeness.
Advises on escalated account issues by considering multiple resources and records when investigating the most complex problems in asset management operational processes.
Approves compliance documentation to help ensure compliance with investment restrictions, laws, Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), and tax codes.
Identifies gaps within operational activities for the investment function and proposes solutions to address the issue.
Manages performance of team through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional services and engagement, motivation and development of team.

An Assistant Vice President on the US Fixed Income Trade Settlements team is responsible for the supervision of a team of individuals, whose responsibilities include the confirmation, communication, and settlement processes related to Nuveen’s US Fixed Income trades. This individual works closely with Traders, Brokers, and Custodians to ensure trades are recorded accurately, matched against the counterparty’s details, and recorded and settled in a timely manner by the custodian banks. This role will guide and lead a team, and represent the team on multiple projects.
Monitor and control workflow to ensure all trade confirmations and settlements are received and occurring in a timely manner
Setup and establish communication of trade activity to custodians, fund administrators, and other interested parties
Represent the US Fixed Income Trade Settlements team on a variety of projects
Provide leadership and supervision to a Settlements team related to workflows, controls, and process improvements
Continuous improvement mindset to capitalize on straight through processing, speed and accuracy of systems and procedures; communicate in functional teams to complete daily tasks, share market and systems knowledge, and preserve and grow strong trading relationships with internal / external customers.
Monitor key metrics and SLAs
3 or more years of experience with trade entry and trade processing systems
5 or more years of experience leading processes and teams in the Settlements space
Experience with Microsoft Office products
Thorough understanding of the lifecycle of a trade from execution to settlement
Thorough understanding of various Investment Management products (Pension funds, Mutual funds, Separate accts)
Expert in Excel including macros, vlookups, pivot tables and other advanced skills
Solid communication skills, written and verbal
Thorough experience with SWIFT messaging and format
Significant experience with industry trade matching utilities, like DTCC products (ALERT, CTM)
Experience with Portfolio Accounting Systems
Experience with order management systems, like Bloomberg AIM and Charles River Investment Management Solution
Ability to address difficult issues and work under pressure in high stress environments
Strong analytical and quantitative skills with an ability to understand complex workflows
Complete understanding of operational risks and controls as well as identifying areas lacking controls and implementing new ones.
Potential Salary: $110,300.00 USD
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
