The Taxable Fixed Income Research Associate supports the process of obtaining, organizing and analyzing Taxable Fixed Income market-related information from internal and external sources. Working under general supervision, this job monitors, researches and analyzes markets and trends to support investment decisions and optimize Taxable Fixed Income business.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts research analysis on specific organizations, securities, financial products, and the overall economic environment to optimize Taxable Fixed Income business.

  • Monitors, researches and analyzes relevant economic, industry, and company data and market trends, preparing reports and developing models to support investment decisions.

  • Builds models and acquires, assembles, and normalizes research data sets to support Taxable Fixed Income portfolios.

  • Assists in additional studies of industry groups or individual securities by searching for, compiling and analyzing data.

  • Develops research methodologies and information sources to improve Taxable Fixed Income research.

  • Works with investment staff of financial institutions to analyze performance of money management departments.

  • Produces high quality research documentation within required timeframe to support Taxable Fixed Income investment decisions.

  • Edits and prepares research materials and results for dissemination.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve research quality for Taxable Fixed Income portfolio.

Summary

Nuveen Investment’s Leveraged Finance team is seeking to hire an associate analyst to focus on the domestic leveraged finance market, which includes leveraged loans, CLOs, high yield, and convertibles. The Leveraged Finance platform at Nuveen applies a collaborative and team-based approach to rigorous fundamental underwriting across the capital structure and risk spectrum, from higher quality non-investment grade to distressed situations. The team’s philosophy is to invest in liquid capital structures, both long and short, where relative value dislocations and event driven catalysts exist. Leveraged Finance manages $34 billion in AUM, and its investment strategies include hedge funds, separately managed accounts, comingled strategies and sub-advisory mandates for both retail and institutional clients, including Nuveen’s parent company, TIAA-CREF.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with senior analysts in preparing analyses for the underwriting of potential primary and secondary investments, both long and short, including participating in investor presentations and management meetings, analyzing business drivers and risks, building financial models and capital tables, and drafting investment write-ups.

  • Supporting senior analysts from the Leveraged Finance credit research team to effectively manage and monitor investments in leveraged loans, high yield, distressed and convertibles, including updating financial models, participating in earnings and management calls and inputting data into proprietary research systems.

  • Assuming primary coverage of investments and subsectors over time, with responsibility to make recommendations on positions and generate new ideas within coverage universe.

  • Assisting with ESG analysis and monitoring of portfolio investments for ESG risk.

Required Qualifications Section:

  • 2 years min of experience in investment banking, sell-side or desk credit research, or leveraged finance capital markets

Preferred Qualifications Section:

  • Proficiency in Excel; working knowledge of Bloomberg preferred

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and financial modeling abilities

  • Self-starter with the ability to work well under pressure, prioritize and multitask

  • Strong communication and writing skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Teamwork oriented

Potential Salary: $130,500.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
