Sr Market Risk Officer
The Senior Market Risk Officer job is responsible for financial risk management activities within the organization and exists as a liaison between management and the executives while providing expertise to guide the business on policies and procedures to control and manage financial risk. This job has ownership of short to mid-term (1 to 3 years) strategy execution and operations activities in alignment with the organization's objectives. This role will provide 2nd Line of Defense risk oversight of Nuveen’s private equity, junior capital and senior debt investing activities. AUM constitutes approximately $50 billion.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Oversees financial risk strategy implementation aligning to the organization's strategy, focusing on investment opportunities and financial activities to control various risks.
Ensures risk management policies and procedures, along with limits and guidelines, are being monitored and followed.
Provides strategic direction regarding technology-based tools and metrics used to perform statistical data analysis that report various financial aspects of investment risk exposures.
Serves as an advisor on existing risk guidelines and policy matters in the pursuit of business by the organization and recommends changes to improve operational and risk identification and management strategy.
Provides a balanced approach to enable focus on both business unit goals and risk management objectives.
Engage and collaborate with colleagues from across the organization to develop risk awareness, culture and engagement in risk management activities.
Independently productive; able to operate at a highly effective level with minimal day-to-day managerial direction.

Qualifications:
Required:
- 8 years required in capital markets and underwriting/assessing private equity, leveraged finance and other complex transactions.
Preferred:
10-15+ in capital markets and underwriting/assessing private equity, leveraged finance and other complex transactions.
Superior credit and corporate finance skills.
Deep knowledge of financial markets, risk analysis and current risk management practices as well as strong technical skills required for the role.
Proven success in developing, building, and overseeing risk management processes
Experience with portfolio management and analytic functions across illiquid asset classes including private equity and private debt.
Excellent ability to identify risk management improvement opportunities in organizations across industries and organizational contexts and promote pragmatic and value-adding advice, delivering tangible positive impact.
Advanced understanding of financial performance drivers, metrics, valuation methods and return attribution.
Experience proactively identifying reputational, strategic, compliance, technology and operational risks and assessing the adequacy of controls to manage such risks, including recommending enhanced or additional controls.
Successful completion of a formal commercial credit training program.
History of working with financial sponsors a plus.
Base Pay Range: $150,500/yr. - $250,900/yr.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
