Senior Engineer

The Information Systems Engineer designs information systems that are appropriate for users' needs and consistent with the overall design of the organization's information systems architecture. Under limited supervision, this job is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the organization's operating systems.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Formulates system scope through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems.

  • Evaluates and implements changes to existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.

  • Reviews flow charts, models, and procedures and feasibility studies to design possible system solutions.

  • Reviews technical documentation to guide system users and to assist with the ongoing operation, maintenance, and development of the system.

  • Collaborates with system analysts, engineers, and programmers to design systems and to determine project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, systems performance standards, and interfaces.

  • Identifies and documents all system constraints, implications and consequences of various proposed system changes.

  • Educates end users on system designs and functionalities through creation of training materials and conducting demos.

  • Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of application operations and troubleshooting problems.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

TIAA has an opportunity for a Sr. VMware Engineer. This role will support the VMware technologies in a self-service, highly automated enterprise hybrid-cloud environment Currently we are leveraging a heavily customized vRealize Automation Suite for automated deployments and management of VM’s on large-scale, hyper-converged infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will join an engineering team managing the enterprise virtualization environment. This is a great opportunity, Come and join our team!

Responsibilities

  • Design, Deploy, Configure and Manage vSphere suite for high-availability and efficiency

  • Automate infrastructure build and configuration leveraging PowerShell/PowerCLI/vRO

  • Understanding of HA and DR concepts as they apply to Infrastructure Designs

  • Provide Tier III SME support for VMware virtualization platform

  • Analyze data critical to capacity forecasting, asset management and procurement.

  • Collaborate openly and continuously with geographically dispersed team.

  • Proactively learn and keep up with emerging platforms and related technology

Required Qualifications::

  • 3+ years of experience in building and administering VMware Platforms in an Engineering capacity

Preferred:

  • Extensive professional experience as a Systems Engineer within an enterprise organization

  • Experience in documenting and implementing best practices and leveraging operations teams

  • Extensive experience with PowerShell/PowerCLI

  • Troubleshooting and proactive analytical skills

  • Experience in mission-critical operations, ideally within a 24x7 large scale distributed and clustered environment

  • Understanding of operating system and network tools and architecture for solving performance issues

  • Working knowledge of Clustering and HA configurations

  • Effective verbal and written communications skills

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

  • Experience with HP server and Blade Chassis or equivalent HW

  • Advanced-level experience with Scripting Languages

  • Strong understanding of hyper-converged infrastructure (Nutanix, VSAN, etc)

Base Pay Range: $90,800/yr. - $151,300/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
