Lead Developer

The Lead Developer is responsible for overseeing the analysis, programming, and configuration of IT Systems Software. This job develops complex software components and advises developers on best methods of software development and code creation. While working with the leadership team, this job provides project leadership for software development activities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitors development work to ensure resulting software meets established goals.

  • Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals.

  • Identifies and analyzes business needs, conducting requirements gathering, and defining scope and objectives for the IT System.

  • Oversees the configuration, customization, diagnoses, and enhancements for operating systems software.

  • Designs, codes and develops, and unit tests applications in accordance with established standards.

  • Performs detailed design and code reviews and addresses findings appropriately.

Nuveen is growing the application development team that supports the Global Equities business. The Lead Java Application Developer is a critical role in the Nuveen Front Office Technology organization. This highly visible role will be responsible for building and supporting equity trading and portfolio management applications The successful candidate will have ultimate technical ownership of several critical trading and portfolio management applications used by the Nuveen Equity business to manage its +$360B portfolio.

Required :

  • 5+ years of experience in development of equity products in a financial services company using the Java language in latency-sensitive environments

  • 5+ years of experience in UNIX and/or Linux operating systems environment

Preferred :

  • Proficiency with computer technologies including Java, Spring framework, python, RESTFUL Webservices, AWS, Eclipse, JBOSS/Weblogic and Oracle PL/SQL

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline

  • Experience using Job scheduling software AutoSys

  • Hands-on experience in writing UNIX shell scripts

  • Knowledge of the following technologies is a plus:

  • GitHub, Jenkins, Hibernate ORM, JPA ORM, Vaadin, Jira

  • Batch and Scripting Languages and Tools (Autosys / PowerShell / python / Unix shell)

  • SQL Server / Oracle / Amazon Aurora / RDS

  • ETL knowledge

  • Experience and knowledge of equity products and instruments including FIX protocol and market data content

  • Knowledge of equity market structure, order handling, and electronic trading

  • Excellent communication ( written and oral), with senior leaders and peers, facilitation, interpersonal and collaborative skills

  • Ability to perform tasks of high complexity and to modify processes, plans, and designs as needed

  • Experience building large, integrated enterprise applications

  • Self-directed, self-starter, and motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks

Potential Salary: $138,000.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
