TIAA Tax Director - TIAA Kaspick in St Louis, Missouri

The Tax Director, TIAA Kaspick manages the tax return preparation and reporting services provided to our nonprofit clients for their planned giving donors. This role owns policy and strategy implementation for tax reporting.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • ​Manage the annual tax reporting cycle and assist the team with the preparation of IRS Forms 5227, 1041 and other state and federal returns for gifts of complex assets such as residential and commercial real estate, partnership interests and tangible personal property.

  • Perform accurate tax research and apply laws and regulations to client situations.

  • Stay abreast of relevant federal and state law developments.

  • Manage tax team including performance management, technical training, career development, budgeting, and recruiting.

  • Thrive in a dynamic environment steeped in a culture of ongoing process improvement yet be nimble enough to manage the impact of transformational decisions.

7-10+ years of experience includes:

  • In the trust tax industry and knowledge of tax reporting industry practices required. Experience with charitable remainder and lead trust tax reporting preferred.

  • Advanced competencies in trust and tax law. Knowledge of federal and state income, estate and gift tax. Knowledge of the Revised Uniform Principal and Income Act and state trust laws. Expert knowledge of planned giving vehicles preferred.

  • Experience in Internal Revenue Service practice and procedure and representing taxpayers with the IRS and state tax agencies required.

  • Experience with tax research tools and tax preparation software.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to support interactions with a broad range of business partners, including software developers, technical specialists, and business end-users preferred. Â

Required Education and Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting and Master degrees preferred

  • Active CPA license, member of a state bar, or enrolled agent

  • JD or LLM in Taxation, a plus

Base Pay Range: $136,500/yr. - $227,500/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).Â
