POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data Visualization Analyst will be a key member of the TIAA Financial Services (TFS) Insights & Analytics team reporting into the Head of Strategic Initiatives andwill be responsible for transforming data into compelling visual stories that will have a direct impact on intermediate to executive level business decisions in addition to the data tools leveraged by the companies power users.

The visual storyteller will work closely with Insights & Analytics leadership and their teams, serving as a key voice in the interpretation and illustration of data, optimizing the internal customer experience. The analyst will be capable of building, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with executives, key clients and subject matter experts while working in a team environment. An ability to work independently and meet critical milestones with minimal supervision is required for success in this role. The analyst will be proficient in working with multiple sources in multiple formats and using visualization tools to effectively summarize, communicate and present findings highlighting key areas of focus. Have a curious business mindset with an ability to condense complex concepts and analysis into clear and concise takeaways that drive business decisions. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of executive level storytelling, strong data analysis acumen, experience in supporting and influencing key stakeholders and the ability to convey insights in actionable ways that can influence strategic decision-making.

KEY DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITES:

  • Leveragestrong research and writing skills in partnering with analytic teams toclean and prepare data for optimal visual conceptualization

  • Acquire,process, parse and occasionally combine diverse datasets while creativelylooking for opportunities to tell stories in new and different ways byvisualizing data

  • Serveas in-house expert in the proper use of information graphics

  • Buildout data visualization needs for longer term projects

  • Stayabreast of the latest tools and techniques in data visualization andstory-telling

  • Understanddata visualization techniques and libraries and their applicability tobusiness problems.

  • Explainand display analytics model behavior/results using qualitative businessvernacular

  • Providerecommendations for plans, programs, strategies, policies and budgetsbased on inferences through data visualization

  • Identify interesting datasets andstories, and report and write them

  • Suggest and build static and interactive datavisualizations and novel ways of telling stories

  • Use key drivers to create concepts for new approaches tovisual stories

REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

  • BusinessAdministration/Management Analytics, Journalism, Communication, ComputerScience, Statistics or related field

  • 3+years of hands on data journalist experience

  • 1+ years of experience designing and building data visualizationswith an understanding of the appropriate chart types to use to highlightpatterns in the data.

  • 1+ years of experience quantifying, tabulating and analyzinglarge, complex volumes of data to transform the data into actionable insights.

  • 1+ years of experience using Tableau and/or other datavisualization tools.

  • 1+ years of experience building data visualization dashboards.

  • 1+ years of experience with python and/or R programming.

  • 1+ years of modeling experience using a variety of regression andsupervised and unsupervised learning techniques.

  • Additional Technical Skills and Abilities include proficiencyinExcel,PowerPoint, HTML, Tableau, Python or R
